Demolition

Text Box: Demolition of the 1908 Fountain
Text Box: The Denver Landmark Preservation Commission gave final approval in the spring of 2006 to demolish the existing 98-year old concrete fountain and vault to construct an identical
replacement. The new fountain vault is one foot lower than the existing vault, a design change made to accommodate the lowering of the water level in Ferril Lake by two feet for the Montclair Storm Water Improvement Project.

The 1908 Electric Fountain vault was demolished in December, 2006 while Ferril Lake was drained for the Montclair Storm Water Improvement Project.  All of the original fountain nozzles and many of the water feature display manifolds were salvaged for either historical or fund-raising purposes.  Surprisingly, only a few of the hundreds of original nozzles were made of brass, the rest were cast iron and steel.
